Pick Up Truck

Of course, Fidelis Models is the best place to go to buy HO scale models but always keep your eyes open for opportunities.

I got this little pick up truck at a major craft store last Christmas.

It was sold on a card with several others and they were covered with glitter.

It also had a hole in the roof and in the tailgate.  I soaked it in paint remover and scrubbed all that glitter off with a toothbrush.  Came off really easy.

I used a bit of model putty to cover the hole in the roof and in the tailgate.  Primer painted it and then olive drab overall.  The window glass is gloss black and the tires are semi-gloss black.  Headlights are chrome silver.  In about January of 1942 the Federal Government put a freeze on all civilian automobile and truck production and even grabbed cars and trucks off the car lots and took some new cars from civilians who had just purchased them.  Many of those vehicles were re-painted in Army colors, and sometimes the chrome was not painted over!  I got a few of these little trucks and I will keep an eye out for more.  Very inexpensive, one piece, and easy to strip the paint off of and convert to military use.

Looks pretty good alongside a Sherman tank.  Not many of these would have served overseas, but they would have been common on and near Army bases all over the country.  Since they were not in combat they usually would not have a white star or even serial number painted on them.  Mostly just a US license plate.

Thanks for reading.
