Late War German Armor

Late in World War Two everything was in short supply for the Germans except the enemy.

Sometimes vehicles were sent from the factory with primer paint rather than a full paint job.  Here a red oxide tank destroyer is lurking in the rubble.  When the Soviet Army is a block away from the factory, sometimes you have to hurry to finish.

An E25 proposed heavy tank destroyer from the side.  Model by Filament Fighters.  Roco SWS halftrack in the foreground.

Hetzer light tank destroyer from Filament Fighters.  Late in the war all sorts of combinations of vehicles were fielded.  Training units were sent to the front with their training vehicles.  Experimental or captured vehicles were sent to the front.  Repair depots cobbled together damaged vehicles and sent them into combat without regard to the type of vehicles organized into platoons.

German troops were very good about forming ad hoc units and fighting together under leaders they did not know well.  They knew their situation was desperate and that can be motivating to some people.
