M578 Armored Recovery Vehicle or T121 Tank Recovery Vehicles date from the late 1950's but the T-120 series continues to serve in many armies around the world. These are essentially tow trucks for military vehicles. These are light recovery vehicles designed to tow tanks off the battlefield and to assist in repairs. The crane can pull off an engine, lift out a transmission or even remove a tank turret. The T-120 was the longest lived of the group, the only difference being the amount of armor protection for the crew. The hulls are identical to the M-110 series of self-propelled guns. It is an interesting vehicle platform and science fiction or fantasy conversions can be made after the crane is removed by substituting new turrets, cannons or missiles.
